Asst. Coach Chris Connolly

Following a stellar playing career at Angelo State University (TX) and several years coaching at the prep level, Chris Connolly joined The Master's College coaching staff as Head Coach Chuck Martin's top assistant for the 2006-07 season. Since this tandem's arrival at the college, the program has taken tremendous steps toward success in the Golden State Athletic Conference, arguably the toughest NAIA Division I conference in the country.

Known for his talent evaluation and player development strengths, Connolly quickly recruited NCAA Division I-caliber players to the college. One of those, Lucian Pesoli, led the GSAC in scoring in the 2006-07 season and earned all-conference and NAIA All-American honors. Ryan Zamroz (2007-08 NAIA All-American, 1st-team All-GSAC) and Eric Durso 2007-08 1st-team All-GSAC), who were already on the roster when Connolly arrived, excelled under his tutelage, too.

Connolly's passion for the game was cultivated in his youth. Growing up in Dallas, Connolly attended Newman Smith High School and then moved on to NCAA Division II Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, where he excelled on the court and in the classroom. A three-year starter for the Rams, he developed into one of the program's finest point guards, concluding his career fourth on the school's all-time assists and steals lists.

Graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Connolly took his first coaching job, a two-year stint at Faith West Academy in Houston. Moving on, he taught at Memorial Middle School in Houston for five years and was an assistant coach for one year at St. Thomas High School, leading the squad to the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) 5A state championship game.

On the side, he continued to hone his mentoring skills, coaching the AAU Houston Shot-Callers from 2001-03 and sending 13 players on to NCAA Division I and II schools. In 2004, he started Foundation Hoops, a program developed to train and work with youth in Houston and Dallas. Both programs were designed to provide young men the opportunity to earn college basketball scholarships through high-level teaching and development.

Throughout his coaching career, Connolly has had the privilege of mentoring numerous gifted players, including Pesoli (Italian A League, Scavolini Pesaro) and Andrew Lasker (British Basketball League, Plymouth Raiders) who currently play in Europe.

Now in  his seventh year at TMC, Connolly continues to channel his passion of teaching the game to the backcourt, drawing upon his experience to extract the best out of these athletes and prepare them for success on and off the hardwood. In addition to his on-court duties, Chris is responsible for scouting reports, film exchange, study table, fundraising, and overseeing the athletic facilities at the college.

Connolly currently resides in Valencia, California.
