Santa Clarita, Calif.- The second game of the double-header at Reese Field on Saturday afternoon was dominated by pitching as TMC snuck away with a 2-0 victory of Arizona Christian. The win raised the Mustangs record to 4-2 (0-0) while the Firestorm fall to 0-5 (0-0).
James Scott, the starting pitcher for Master’s, was in control from the beginning. Scott threw a complete game shutout and struck out five over his seven innings of work to earn the win.
The Mustangs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Spencer Downs delivered with a big homerun that would prove to be the only support that Scott would need.
Master's was not quite done scoring, however. The insurance run came in the bottom of the fifth inning for Master’s. Joe Riddle knocked a single to start the inning off. James Sloan, who was pinch-running for Riddle, was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Shackelford. After that, Jon Popadics came through with a clutch single to center field to score Sloan.
The biggest threat from Arizona Christian came in the last inning when their first two batters reached base, but they could not produce any runs.
Coach Brooks' squad will face Claremont on the road on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
