October 8, 2013
Dear Friends and Family,
Today is the beginning of the 7h week of school! So much has happened in the first third of the semester: tests have been taken, papers have been written, and songs have been sung, especially by this year’s Majesty.
We all arrived at Master’s two weeks before school started for SLS retreat in the Crestline mountains the first week and then for WOW and Majesty retreat the second week. Our very first rehearsal with Dr. Plew was on August 16th and after only three hours, we were able to sing through a whole song, “Nearer, Still Nearer” for some of the music faculty, as well as a few other songs.
On Sunday the 18th, after the new students had arrived, we packed our bags and headed to Pine Mountain for Majesty retreat. That Monday, we rehearsed for six hours and locked in 8 songs for this year! We had the opportunity to sing for some of the members of Pine Mountain Christian Church and they were the sweetest! At the end of the time, we prayed together for each other and it was a real unique time of encouragement for both us and for them.
Wednesday it was back to reality and we spent the rest of the week with the WOWies, helping them adjust to a life in the dorms at college. We also got to help with Chorale auditions for the upcoming school year. It always is fun to watch the new students meet Dr. Plew for the first time.
School started and the end of that week we were off to Chorale Retreat in Tehachapi. All the chorale members go up to the mountains and we spend the afternoon playing games and getting to know each other while Dr. Plew works his magic doing voice matching for each section. Chorale had their first rehearsal September 1, only five weeks ago.
Majesty had their first weekend out at that same church in Tehachapi, Bear Valley Church. We had two services and got to sing with the choir. What a blessing that was! TMC Music alumni Zack LaComm accompanied the choir and spent time with us the whole weekend. We also go to talk to some potential students, especially the son at the house that the boys stayed at.
The past few Sundays, majesty has been all over Southern California. We went up to Cambria to be with Majesty Alums Marcus and Catherine Rowley who were married earlier this year. We drove up on a cool Saturday afternoon and go to hang out with them at the church on Saturday night and also after the service on Sunday morning.
The morning service was out first full service and we had singing, testimonies, a trio and our stage manager, Taylor Arnone, gave a devotional from John 3:16 about God’s relentless love for us. After a delicious lunch, we packed up the sound equipment and headed to Lemore in the Central Valley. Pastor Gruchacz, the father of Majesty alum Tim Gruchacz, opened the service with a word of prayer and then we got to sing for a full hour and share testimonies similar to the morning service. The congregation was smaller, but that led to a sweet time of fellowship afterwards and after a long weekend away, we headed back to TMC. It is so cool to see the Lord open doors to talk to people about the Gospel and also to be a face of TMC and introduce prospective students and parents to the school, some of them for the first time.
Friday evening, September 27th, was our on-campus concert! We invited the whole school and everyone else that we knew and at 7:30 we started singing for the 300 people that filled the music recital hall. It was a wonderful blessing to be able to sing for our friends and family and to be able to worship with them in each of the songs and testimonies. For our final song of the concert, we invited over 15 Majesty alums to join us on stage and sing “Stand Among the Millions,” which talks about believers all coming together to worship our Savior and King in heaven.
That same weekend, Majesty was in Chino at Calvary Community Chinese Fellowship, the church of our own Dr. Wong. It was such a unique time to be with and minister to believers who probably didn’t understand a word we were saying, and yet were so receptive to the songs. It was such a blessing to hear them worship and preach in Mandarin, and be reminded that this is what heaven is going to be like, worshiping with people of every nation, tribe and tongue.
This past weekend, we were at Trinity Baptist Church in Pasadena. A congregation of only 70 people, we really go to spend time with them and interact with them. They told us about past pastors they have had, including Doug Bookman of Shepherds’ Theological Seminary and our own TMC professor Dr. Mackey. Then in the evening, The Master’s Chorale had their first concert! We were at Faith Community Church, only two miles from the college. A number of TMC students came to the concert and we go to minister to them, as well as to members of the church who may not have ever heard a group from Master’s before.
Please be in prayer for us, we are recording an album this year! With the completion of the new recording studio in the music recital hall, we have the resources to be able to record and release an album by the spring semester. Our accompanist, Tiffany Gibb, has already laid down the piano tracks so that within the next few weeks, we can record ten songs. Praise the Lord for the opportunity he has given us, and be in prayer for the actual recording and that our voices would be rested and that we would ultimately be recording as an act of worship.
Additionally, we are leaving for Outreach Week tomorrow! We will be heading up to Northfork, California to minster with Steve and Sarah Crotinger of Hillside Baptist Church. We will be in charge of running children’s music camp in the afternoons and the boys get to help Steve with some manual labor. We also have to opportunity to minster to the Mono Native American tribe, which is a huge answer to prayer. Please be in prayer for our ministry to this very dark place and to the children and young adults we come in contact with. The Gospel has the power to save and we pray that the Lord would use it to have great impacts for Christ.
Thank you for your faithful support of our minister. We always value your prayers and we praise the Lord for you.
In Him and for His Glory,
Amelia, Ben, Caroline, Jared (& Alison), Kyle, Mike, Sara, Shannon, Taylor and TIffany
It is an immensely humbling thing to be a servant of the Most High God; to be an example of true, daily worship, and to usher His people into His presence. This is the wonderful ministry and unbelievable privilege we have this year! We would like to invite your prayer support as we serve… Please pray for our individual relationships with the Lord. Our ability to be used by the Lord is directly related to our time spent with Him. Our ministry must be an overflow of our hearts as they are filled with the things of God. (Ephesians 3:16-19; I Corinthians 11:1; Colossians 3:16, 17) Please pray for our continued unity. We are ten individuals who spend much time together in a dynamic ministry. United we are an incredible tool for God to use, but divided we are a dangerous weapon harmful to the Lord's church. May we walk in a worthy manner being diligent to preserve one mindset. (Ephesians 4:1-3; Philippians 2:1, 2)
Please pray for the churches and schools we are visiting this year. It is our desire to be an encouragement to them as we seek to increase their understanding of who God is, to motivate them to live every moment as a heart-felt response to this understanding, and to implant in them the desire to serve the Lord in the ministry He has for them. (Romans 12:1, 2; Hebrews 10:24, 25) Please pray for the individuals who attend our services. Week after week God encourages us through the stories and lives of those He has ministered to through us. May He continue to use us to cause others to glorify Him, and may they live lives that are forever changed. (Philippians 1:3-6; Titus 2:11-15)
Please pray that our lives would be forever different through our involvement in Majesty. We desire to grow ever closer to God as we proceed through life. Pray that we will take to heart what God is doing through us, and that we will be infused with a greater love and passion for the Lord that will reside in us for the rest of our days. (Ephesians 4:14-16; Philippians 3:13, 14) Majesty has recorded several albums over the past several years. They include Majesty Live, The Master's Music 2000, I Will Rejoice, How Great is Our God, and the latest album, I Will Follow Christ.
