| Mustangs Christen Season With Win Joe Zeller hurled five shutout innings and newcomer Chris Talley drove in four runs to lead The Master’s College to an 11-2 win over Patten Friday afternoon in the season opener for both clubs on Reese Field. Zeller, who has now won 18 games in a Mustang uniform over two-plus seasons, dominated the Lions by striking out seven and allowing just four hits over the minimum distance needed for a win. Meanwhile, Talley, playing in his first collegiate game, lashed two-run doubles in the fourth and sixth innings, respectively, as the Mustangs scored four runs in the third and six more in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Junior first baseman Jared Otto added to the 10-hit attack with a pair of hits, including a second-inning solo homer, while Bryan Lucas slapped two more hits and drove in a run. The Mustangs and Lions get together again on Saturday, this time in a doubleheader that starts at 11:00am. |
