Webb, Tappe Headline TMC NCCAA All-Americans

Senior Tiffany Webb and junior Grace Tappe headlined four women’s basketball players from The Master’s College named to the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) All-American teams. Webb and Tappe were first-team choices while senior Amy Van Doesburg was named to the second team and sophomore Kinsley Mittel was an honorable mention selection.

Webb, who was also named the NCCAA Far West Region Player of the Year, overcame a devastating knee injury the year before to post one of the most prolific seasons in Lady Mustang history. After sitting out most of the 2003-04 campaign, the senior guard from Beavercreek, Ohio, rebounded this season by leading the Mustangs in scoring (18.9ppg), field goals (217), three-point field goals (60), and free throws (93). She set school records with 41 points and nine three-pointers against Westmont on February 22. Her 587 points and scoring average are the second-highest, single-season marks in school annals.

Tappe, a repeat selection on the first team, had another solid season running the team from the point, leading the squad in assists (173), free throw percentage (81.4), and steals (96). She finished eighth and 10th in the country, respectively, in assists and steals, and was second in the Golden State Athletic Conference in free throw percentage and steals, and fourth in assists. She is second on the college’s all-time list with 412 assists and fourth with 240 steals.

A first-team choice last year, Van Doesburg averaged 11.6ppg and paced the Mustangs in rebounding (278, 9.0rpg), double-doubles (9), field goal percentage (54.3), blocked shots (43), and tied Webb for the team lead in free throws. On the career lists, she is No. 3 with 884 rebounds, and No. 4 in points scored (1322), free throws (343), and field goal percentage (50.9).

Mittel’s initial postseason honor was a tribute to a season that showed no signs of a sophomore jinx. Her 11.8ppg average was second only to Webb and she shot 47.5% from the field. She finished third on the team with 69 steals and was fourth with 56 assists.
